Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 27, 2026
This policy covers the VaporCalc website (vaporcalc.com) and the Is It Worth It? browser extension.
What data we collect
VaporCalc website
VaporCalc runs entirely in your browser. All calculator inputs, wishlist items, savings data, and quiz progress are stored in your browser's localStorage. None of this data is sent to any server. We do not have accounts, logins, or user profiles.
Is It Worth It? extension
The extension stores your watchlist, savings scoreboard, and settings in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). This data stays on your device and is never transmitted to VaporCalc or any third party.
When you click the extension icon, it reads the current page to detect product names and prices. This detection runs locally in your browser — no page content is sent to any external server. The extension uses these permissions:
- activeTab — Read the current page (only when you click the extension icon) to detect product names and prices.
- scripting — Inject a content script into the active tab to extract product information from the page DOM.
- tabs — Detect tab changes to clear the notification badge.
- storage — Save your watchlist, savings, and settings locally in your browser.
- alarms — Schedule desire-check reminders after your configured wait period.
- contextMenus — Add a right-click menu option to add selected text to your watchlist.
- notifications — Show a browser notification when your wait period ends.
What data we do not collect
- We do not collect personal information (name, email, address, payment info).
- We do not track your browsing history or the pages you visit outside VaporCalc.
- We do not use cookies. Application Insights is configured with cookies disabled.
- We do not sell, share, or transmit any data to third parties for advertising or marketing.
Third-party services
VaporCalc website
The website uses the following third-party services:
- Azure Application Insights — Collects anonymous page-view, feature-usage, and performance telemetry. Page views record which pages you visit on VaporCalc, your browser type, and general location derived from IP address. Feature-usage events record which calculator features you use (e.g. "share link copied", "share card downloaded") and the calculator name — never your inputs, results, or any personal information. Performance metrics record page-load timing data (such as how quickly the page renders and responds to interaction) along with the page path — no personal information is included. Cookies are disabled. Data is sent to Microsoft Azure servers. See Microsoft's privacy documentation.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics — Collects anonymous, aggregated page-view counts and Core Web Vitals (page-load speed metrics). No cookies are used. Cloudflare derives general location from IP address but does not store the IP itself or build cross-site visitor profiles. Data is sent to Cloudflare servers. See Cloudflare's Web Analytics privacy notice.
- Google Fonts — Loads the Orbitron and Rajdhani typefaces. Google may log standard web request data (IP address, user agent).
- Chart.js CDN — Loads the charting library. The CDN provider may log standard web request data.
- Amazon Associates — Book links on the recommended resources page are Amazon affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, Amazon pays VaporCalc a small commission. Amazon may set cookies and collect data per their privacy notice. VaporCalc does not receive any personal information about you from Amazon.
Is It Worth It? extension
The extension sends anonymous feature-usage events to Azure Application Insights. These events record which features you use (e.g. "popup opened", "item added", "item skipped") but never include product names, prices, page URLs, or any personal information. Each installation is identified by a random ID stored locally — this is not linked to your name, email, or any account.
Telemetry is on by default. You can turn it off at any time: click the extension icon → ⚙ → uncheck "Send anonymous usage stats". When telemetry is off, the extension sends nothing.
Events collected:
- Popup opened
- Product detected on page (records whether the site was Amazon or another store — not the URL or product name)
- Item added to watchlist (records whether it came from detection or manual entry — not the item name or price)
- Item removed or skipped
- Disruptive overlay shown, tracked, or dismissed
- Context menu used
- Desire-check alarm fired
- Settings changed
Data sync between extension and website
If you have the extension installed and visit vaporcalc.com, the extension syncs your watchlist and savings data between chrome.storage.local and the site's localStorage. This sync happens entirely within your browser — no data leaves your device.
Data deletion
You own your data. To delete it:
- Website data: Clear your browser's localStorage for vaporcalc.com, or use your browser's "Clear site data" feature.
- Extension data: Right-click the extension icon → "Manage extension" → "Clear storage", or uninstall the extension. This also removes the anonymous telemetry ID.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
